The Syrah grape, also known as Shiraz or Hermitahe in Australia is risponsible for making some big, dark, earthy, hot country reds with complex fruit (often incorporating a fruitgum tang) and a peppery edge.

Shiraz is also often seen in combination with Cabernet Sauvignon, fleshing it out and beefing it up.

But the real home of Shiraz is the northern Rhône, France.

Sometimes Shiraz is used to lift the tone of blends of other grapes such as Grenache and Carignan.

Montalto Syrah di Sicilia comes from Western Sicily, an area noted for fine wine production. Hot, dry conditions have produced healthy, ripe grapes which have resulted in a balanced wine with spiciy, blackberry fruit.

Drink on its own or with hearty pasta dishes and tangy cheeses.
