                 "FOGLIARUBINA" BARBERA D'ASTI
                    PRODUCER: GRUPPO COLTIVA SCARL
                  DOC PIEMONTE

Barbera crops up all over the place in Italy, but its homeland is Piedmont, particularly around Alba, Asti and Monferrato, where is known as 'the people's wine'. Barbera is great stuff: vividly coloured, plum-skins sweet-sour, fruit-packed, with enlivening acidity, a low tannin level and a bone-dry finish. It is a productive and versatile red grape variety which is challenged only by Sangiovese. With carbonic maceration or in a lighter style it is at its liveliest when young. It also has a great affinity for barrique-aging.
Barbera D'Asti stands in between Alba's weighty style and Monferrato's more frolic-some one.        Argentina , Mexico and California also make considerable use of Barbera an even Australia has a couple of varietal examples.
