The region: by the end of the 1960s, people were talking about an obscure wine from northern Spain. Restarateurs found it to be an excellent house red: strong, full of fruit, easy to drink and (most important of all) mature.
Tasting notes: this wine with mouthfilling minty berry characters was made using 100% Tempranillo grapes from the oldest Muriel vineyards.
It has cassis, herb and dark chocolate on the nose with balanced cedary oak.
In the mouth is smooth, full-flavoured, concentrated, finishing in soft tannins.
COMPANY PROFILE
Bodegas Muriel continues a long tradition begun in 1926 when its wines achieved their sound reputation thanks to his painstaking work of Jose Murua Villaverde.
Since Muriel (the result of combining the names Murua and Elciego) regained the family bodega in 1982, the company has maintained the level of quality that has always characterised the splendid wines of Rioja Alavesa.
