"PRIMICIA" TEMPRANILLO
PRODUCER: BODEGAS PRIMICIA
DO RIOJA

This is a monovarietal Tempranillo with a fairly dense cherry red colour. Ripe, red fruit nose of cherries and raspberries, with hints of wild herbs and fresh notes. Aromatic scent of jasmine. The wood gives hints of vanilla, good roasted coffee and cake aromas. Silky tannins.

Founded in 1985 this is a small bodega with 25 ha of vines.Best known for good to very good red strong on Tempranillo. A forward-looking bodega that emphasises bottle rather oak age.

" Rioja has been Spain's flagship wine for 150 years, so its winemakers have a big reputation to live up to.

There are more than 2,500 bodegas in Rioja, of whom about 110 export their wine, so choosing just 20 is an almost impossible task, but these are the criteria I used to select the finalists: first, they had to have been established for at least 10 years to show a range of vintages.

Second, I made a particular study of good wines in poor vintages.

Finally, I gave preference to producers who showed long-term consistency of quality, year in and year out, which is, I believe, at least as important as producing the occasional meda-winning wine"
