"SOLARTE"
AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE
PRODUCER: GRUPPO COLTIVA
DOC BASILICATA

The south of Italy is generally referred to as the Mezzogiorno which means midday. The association is made with the sun, which at noon pours its heat down uncompromisingly. Volcanos are a famous feature and soils tend therefore to be volcanic, granitic, the perfect formula for the growing of the vine. Indeed, viticulture has been practised here for thousands of years by Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Spanish, Frenchs.

Among established black varieties pride of place must go to Aglianico, of Hellenic origin. This grape exhibits biochemical complexity, firm acidity, tannicity and colour, giving a wine of long duration in a relatively cool micro-climate, which some consider the equal of Barolo. Aglianico also figures as an optional variety in the make-up of what is perhaps Campania’s best-known wine: Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio.

Solarte Aglianico del Vulture is made from grapes harvested in the slopes of the homonymous mountain near the town of Rionero.

This is a ruby-colour wine, perfumed, and with great structure. On the palate is elegant, intense, tannic and harmonious. Depending on maturity it also combines an impressive smoothness and weight, richness and restraint.
