"POGGIO IL CASTELLARE " BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
PRODUCER: CANTINE BARONCINI
DOCG TUSCANY

This long-lived red from the Brunello clone of Sangiovese Grosso grown in the community of Montalcino, south of Siena, ranks as one of Italy’s most prized and, from some estates, most expensive wines.

Powerfully structured, it matures in cask and bottle into an austere, warm, amply flavoured wine of deep ruby to brick-red colour and richly complex bouquet. Brunello is capable of grandeur with great age and is the only important Tuscan red wine whose Sangiovese has never been blended with other varieties.

Montalcino enjoys a warmer, drier climate than the various zones of Chianti, and the open countryside around it ensures both excellent ventilation and cool evenings and nights. Sangiovese reaches its maximum ripeness here, giving fuller, richer wines than anywhere else in Tuscany, with high levels of dry extract and an alcoholic strenght frequently over 14c.

Poggio Il Castellare Brunello di Montalcino is a dusty-style wine with rich nose, full of blackcurrant, musk, liquorice, earthy, prunes and black cherries. Quiet long and aromatic on finish, this is an elegant wine with a firm structure and unique personality.
