Italy ’s vinous genius probably express itself at its highest through this wine, made in myriad ways throughout the land, from the Swiss Alps to the island of Pantelleria. This is traditional Italian wine at its most majestic. In a section devoted to oenological and oeno-technical improvements or modifications of recent times there would seem to be little to say about this wine, since in most cases it has seen very few changes in vinification techniques since it was created, perhaps centuries ago.
But it is precisely because of its obscurity, in modern eyes, combined with its antiquity, its uniqueness in world oenological terms, and the importance of its place in the context of Italian fine wine that it deserve attention. Romandiola Passito 1994 is made from Albana di Romagna grapes harvested in the hillsides of Bertinoro.
The grapes are ripened and dried in the sun in traditional drying mats. The wine is then aged for a year in oak barriques, thus enhancing its overall balance and complexity.
This Passito is golden yellow with amber highlights. It has an intense perfume with hints of acacia flowers and the raisiny notes typical of semi-dried grapes.
On the palate is soft, velvety, sweet and pleasantly fruity.
Excellent dessert wine. Ideal serving temperature: 8-10 ºC
