Bordeaux is the largest source of quality wines in the world.
Its flat countryside is attractive, if not spectacular. However, without the lush vineyards and the illustrious names of the great chateaus, there would be little to thrill the traveller.
Sandwiched between the regions of Cognac and Armagnac, Bordeaux is the largest departement in France and the wine it produces generates more revenue than any other region.
St Estephe, the most northerly of the classic communes, is situated 18 km south of Lesparre, bordering the Gironde. This is a well-drained area, well-sited, with softly sloping vineyards.
An abundance of high-quality Bourgeois growths makes St Estephe the 'bargain basement' of Bordeaux. And with just five 'crus classes' covering a mere 6% of the commune, it is rich source of undervalued clarets.
Always more robust than Margaux, at their best St Estephes are round, rich wines, and many have a distinct 'goût de terroir' and a robustness that mark them out from the other three main Medoc communes.
Chateau Le Crock St Estephe Cru Bourgeois is a rich, flavourful wine of full body, of great complexity with silky fruit and elegant finesse.
