"SOLARTE" PRIMITIVO
PRODUCER: GRUPPO COLTIVA SCARL
IGT PUGLIA - ITALY
The origins of this variety are uncertain, but it is related to California's Zinfandel, which apparently arrived in the USA from Central Europe. Now it is considered its sibling, while recent research indicate a common Croatian origin. The name suggest "early ripening" in Italian, not "primitive", though many Primitivos would fit the latter description.
Some critics never found much resemblance between Primitivo and Zin, which may simply remind us that wine making and terroir have as much influence on the style of the finished wine as does the grape.
The vines grow in clay and limestone soil that enriches the flavour of the wine with subtle spices.
Solarte Primitivo exhibits splendid spice, fruit and mineral notes.
The palate is gentle but firm, with lots of flavour in a youthful, compact, modern style-wine of fresh fruit and structured balance.
The creamy tannins indicate a very careful extraction.
This supple red wine goes very well with or without food.
