                 "CLOS DE L’EGLISE" TANNAT
                    PRODUCER: JEAN VIGNEAU-POUQUET
                  AOC MADIRAN - FRANCE

The Tannat that plays a supporting role in some appellations in the southwest of France, is the primary variety planted in the appellation Madiran, which covers an area between the city of Pau– and a bend in the river Adour to the northeast.                                                                              In Madiran, Tannat responds to the late Indian summers by giving wines of remarkable tannic intensity, which are sometimes softened by the addition of small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet Franc. Madiran is Gascon wine, and the wines are markedly different from the wines of Cahors to the northeast or Bordeaux downriver.
Clos de L’Eglise Madiran is a distinctive wine well-worth getting to know. It is richly perfumed with sweet oak aromas and ripe fruit characters of liquorice and prunes.
The palate is seductive smooth, fresh and lively with satisfying weight and depth of cassis, prune and spice flavours.
